We had an outstanding day of collecting at the Tripp Mine. Ashley Pickinpaugh was extremely gracious and hospitable to us and told us all about the Tripp Mine activities and the Facebook group as well. The sheer quantity of pegmatite material was impressive, and seemingly anywhere, Beryls, Garnets, Schorl Tourmaline and other collectibles turned up. Sidney Raab definitely had the find of the day with a soda can - sized Beryl crystal, with sharp hexagonal faces and yellowish - brown color. Tom Biegel took 2nd place with a double fist - sized chunk with an at least 5 inch long, 1/2 inch or so thick, aqua blue Beryl crystal embedded in the rock. Kevin Cooper also found an impressive several inch light green Beryl crystal, which he carefully worked out of the rock it was embedded in. Virtually everyone (Hog included !!) found small Beryls of varying small lengths and thicknesses. Needless to say, WE'LL BE GOING BACK !!!
