This trip was one of 2 trips offered for our Herkimer Double header weekend slated for Sat and Sun Nov 11 - 12. The day was definitely a cold one, with just above freezing temps, and a pervasive wind chill throughout the day. However everyone managed to have a great outing and come away with some nice finds of varying size and quality.
I found a nice 1.5 inch rectangular - type Herk with "golden healer" internal coloration and some internal crystallization. I also found a flawless 1.5 cm double terminated, water clear Herk. Initially I thought I had uncovered a fist sized hunker of a Herk, however it turned out to be only a partially crystallized Herk with a lot of damage and a large section of dolostone embedded on the back.
Jason Halpern and sons found a variety of 1 - 2 inch or smaller, Herks of different sizes and qualities. They worked at different heights / ledges and worked their way down.
Katie Marinis and Dave Stillman found some nice Matrix dolostone pieces with small Herks in vugs and cavities. They also found some nice druzy pieces (blackish and dark yellow colorations) in the same general areas.
I did not hear from the rest of the trip goers as to their finds, however everyone had a great overall day of collecting at Mohawk Valley MM.
