The Spanns' collection is not only a testament to their passion for mineralogy but also a cornerstone of the mineral community, with specimens often showcased at institutions such as the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas.

Gail is a dedicated advocate for the mineral community, serving on the boards of several organizations, including The Mineralogical Record, and the Rice Museum of Rocks & Minerals and previously on The Hudson Institute of Mineralogy (Mindat.org).
