Rockhounding in McAdoo, PA

McAdoo, PA in Schuylkill County and Centralia, PA in Columbia County are only a half
hour apart. Both sites can be done in one trip.
McAdoo is the famous quartz site but it is also famous for peacock coal. Our focus will
be on the peacock coal.
Centralia is famous for the coal mine fire. It is no longer burning in town, so visiting is
easy. The site in Centralia is famous for fern fossils.
For both locations, we will give you a little geologic history, explain exactly how to access
these sites, and show examples of finds there.
